Michael doubled a client's subscriptions in 30 days. He didn't touch their marketing. Here's what he changed: Most founders think a subscription problem is a marketing problem. Michael Kleinmann has run subscription e-commerce for over two decades. He built Underwear Expert into a men's subscription with 100 third-party brands, and now consults for D2C supplement brands trying to fix their recurring revenue. When this client came to him, their churn was high! They thought they needed more traffic. Michael looked into how they do subscriptions instead. This ecomm business made one common mistake that sabotaged their re-orders! When it came time to sign up, customers couldn't preview what they were getting before being charged. "I found that people don't really like to be surprised. When I first started the company, there was a bit of a surprise element to everything." "It sounds simple... but we let customers see what they'd be getting in the subscription!" In 30 days he doubled their subscription conversion rate. Sometimes the simplest fixes are the ones that make you the most money. P.S. Listen to him tell the story himself: [LINK]

One default setting was costing this founder $40K a month. No one had ever checked it. Here's what Michael found: A large department store (with thousands of orders / month) hired @[Michael Kleinmann](urn:li:person:_Ivl8Zb5_U) to look at their operations. He pulled their shipping data first. Turns out this one default setting was costing them $40,000 / month (and no one bothered to look): Every single order was going out UPS Ground. The team hadn't picked it on purpose (+ customers weren't asking for it). It was just the default in the system! Priority mail would get there in the same time for much less money. "We found them $40,000, in the first 30 days of working with that client." A lot of founders are convinced they have a marketing problem when there's a big ops leak no one has looked at in years. P.S. The most expensive line item in your business is probably the one nobody on your team has ever questioned. Watch him tell the story himself: [LINK]

Michael was getting 5,000 complaints a month. He put every employee on the phones to hear them. Here's what they found: Michael Kleinmann built Fresh Pair, his first underwear company, into a mid-eight-figure business. They got 5,000 phone calls from customers every month! He paid for audits and advisors to find what was broken. Then he decided to do something... unusual... "I made every single person in the company spend a few days a year sitting in customer service just to learn what was really going on." He even picked up the phone himself! This changed how he ran the company. He got to actually hear what the customers thought of his underwear. Shipping was breaking in ways no audit had caught. The warehouse was making mistakes nobody on his ops team had flagged. "I was embarrassed that I had that many things I had to fix." But the fact that customers told him exactly what to fix, is why he became so successful. "You can transform your entire business by just listening to the customer." P.S. The people you're paying to find your problems are usually the last to find them. Watch him tell his story himself: [LINK]
